Toner is known as “dry ink”. It is not a liquid; it is a fine powder used in photocopier machines to make images and texts on the paper. The major content is Carbon black and granulated plastic and with Carrier materials like silica beads. Toner is negatively charged and stored in toner cartridges inside the copier. The Drum which is filled with static electricity will attract the toner, then the paper filled with static electricity attracts the toner from Drum. The Toner comes in Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black and forms a subset of colures by combining these for use in Colour copiers.

Health risks of Toner

Toner is not harmful to health, but exposure to its high concentration may cause discomfort in respiratory organs. Toner is considered as nuisance dust. The people who have respiratory diseases like Asthma and Bronchitis are better to avoid changing toner cartridges. If any Toner is spilled, it is better to vacuum up. Remove the leftover by using a cloth sprayed with cold water. Never use hot water instead of cold water, because it may melt and become sticky. When changing the Toner cartridges use disposable gloves and facemasks to avoid skin contact with it.
